What I Learned This Past Week - 8.9.22
Changing so slowly that you don't realize you are being passed.
I’m sharing with whoever’s interested in what I learn as I try to remain clear-eyed about the opportunities for real estate and web3.

This Week’s Musings
I have several posts in draft form that I anticipate releasing in August and September that will go beyond the ‘What I Learned This Past Week’ format and dive deeper into elements of the web3 real estate space that have caught my attention and I feel confident in writing about. My goal going forward will be to sprinkle in these pieces to augment the recurring current post.
Be on the lookout for the first such posting later this week!
Informative Articles I Read
Colombia Enlists Ripple Labs to Put Land Deeds on Blockchain (Decrypt) - Super exciting to see this. As I speculated months ago, developing countries are making the first moves to leverage blockchain for property title.
The Metaverse Real Estate Boom Turns Into a Bust (The Information) - Tons of speculation drove the parcel price of land up. When the bottom fell out of the crypto markets, Buy n’ Flip speculators fled the virtual land markets and there were only slow moving sellers left. While I think there will be an eventual rebound, owners have to have a new buy n’ hold mentality for a (long) while.
How Blockchain Can Create Trust In Real Estate (Tirios) - Look forward to seeing what else Tirios publishes on real estate and web3 as they are also launching a newsletter.
Podcasts/Events/Webinars/etc. That I Listened To
Web3 & Real Estate Summit (Propy) - Miami here we come!
Innovative Companies I Discovered
ShelterZoom - Leveraging blockchain technology, transform documents, contracts, and marketing leads into fully digital Document Tokens™, a new type of Smart Document, overcoming limitations in existing document and contract management technology, as well as to enable transferability, traceability, and portability.
MetaSpace Real Estate Investment Trust (MREIT) - Through MREIT’s native token, they acquire, mint, and lease high-traffic virtual assets across the metaverse.
Metaverse Group - The Metaverse Group is the first vertically integrated real estate company focused on the metaverse economy in the world.
SMARTRealty - Applying smart contract technology to everyday real estate rental, purchase, and sale transactions of all kinds.
Bee - Bee enables homeowners to rent out their entire house or individual rooms in exchange for cryptocurrency.
People You Need To Follow On LinkedIn
Sanjay Raghavan - Head of web3/blockchain Initiatives at Roofstock
Troy Huerta - CEO of ByBrix
Vernon Jay - CEO of EquityCoin
Web3 Announcements From Proptech Companies
‘Selling Sunset’ Star Christine Quinn’s Brokerage Debuts Crypto Credit Scoring Platform (Techcrunch) - Headline is definitely clickbait, but put the reality TV hate aside and read up on the tech RealOpen is deploying.
Random But Important Things I Stumbled On
US Sanctions Crypto Mixer Tornado Cash (Bloomberg) - I chose to include this article as it illustrates the gap between crypto/web3 desire and today’s reality. The fact that these tools and solutions still interact with critical internet infrastructure that today can be forced by government agencies to comply, demonstrates a yet to be solved crypto/web3 vulnerability.
Best Metaverse Performance (MTV) - Thanks to @TPan in his NFTs with TPan newsletter for pointing this out. MTV creating a new category for web3 performances is kinda a big deal if you ask me. While I only watch reruns of Ridiculousness on MTV these days, good to know that there is still some other programming on this cultural icon
